Oil Pressure Gauge (pg10 ins)
Mk1 Spitfire

A/M 6A/254
Dated 1939
Battle of France and Battle of
Britain era Oil pressure gauge. In superb condition
with undamaged capillary. This is almost certainly for the
Spitfire or Hurricane as it has a short tube, there is a
very good possibility this was used in action, this
instrument would not have remained in storage for long at
this stage of the War. With this date it makes an extremely
rare item as the capillary's almost never survive intact.

This belongs
in the instruments section as it is closely related to RPM
indicator's listed in these pages. |
RPM Counter drive(pg10 ins)
This is in superb boxed
serviceable condition (subject to required check's and
permits only opened for the picture and immediately
resealed. These drives were connected to the Merlin by the
normal direct drive cable that powered the
mechanical Rev counters .It generates an electric current
and power's the electrical type RPM indicator. This
type of indicator was used where it was impractical to use
direct drive cable's. They were used in all Mk's of
Lancaster's and many other Bombers where the cockpit or
engineers panel was far remote from the engine. It was
actually used to power the RPM gauge in the rear cockpit of
the very rare two seat Spitfire's. These do appear from time
to time but never in this condition, this should end up on a
flying aircraft.

8Llb Boost Gauge from Bristol Beaufighter (pg10 ins)
Battle of Britain Dated 1940

Here is a used 8Llb
Boost gauge which I am reliably informed is attached to a
fragment from a MKI Beaufighter instrument panel at least
that's what the dealer I got it from told me. It has a part
number on the panel you can see it, you can enlarge the
image by clicking on it. The date supports its use in a Mk
Beaufighter.

Official trials on the
Beaufighter commenced at an all-up weight of 16,000 lb.
after the first prototype's delivery to the RAF on
April 2,1940, and a maximum
speed of 335 mph was attained at 16,800 feet.
Also suitable for a battle of Britain
Spitfire or Hurricane panel.
