WWI Turn & slip indicator (pg4 ins)
Here we have a superb piece.
A turn and slip indicator from a WWI RFC aircraft. So
far I have managed to establish that it was used in at least
the SE5-A and the Sopwith Camel as you can see from the
cockpit pictures shown. How ever I suspect it was probably
used on other aircraft types. This piece is over 90 years
old and has some corrosion on the back as seen in the
picture. This will be treated to prevent any further damage
and can be repaired if required. The rest of the instrument
is in good condition.

WWI RFC Clinometer (pg4 ins)
This unique rare item came in
the same box as the above WWI T&S and as you can see its
very similar in design. Interestingly its made by Smith and
& Son and It occurred that this may be an early instrument
made by the original Smiths family whose company went on to
to make thousands of aircraft gauges right up to present
day.

"The
clinometer is an instrument for showing the inclination of
an aircraft or ship relative to the horizontal."
This particular model appears
to have electrical connections on the ends maybe an early
attempt to illuminate the instrument? I have not attempted
to take it apart I'll leave that discovery for the new
owner.
It has a very old stores
ticket with writing in red, I cannot make out the words,
needs a few hours with a good magnifying glass to work out
what's on their

Engine temp gauge used
aircraft with radial engines. These are sometimes fitted to
Lancaster's engineers panel when Radial engines were fitted.
Would also have been used in Sterling and Halifax. Used in
early jets to pick up the temperature of the engine from
multiple external sensors in the same way as it was used on
Big Radial engines.

Dive and Flap indicator (pg 4 ins)
This attractive gauge is a very
rare flap indicator. I have not seen this gauge before and
it is not to be confused with the auto pilot instrument used
in Lancaster although it has the same colouring. I think its
very likely this was used in an RAF Wartime dive Bomber,
which used flaps to control their speed in the dive.
Possibly used in the Fairey Barracuda or Blackburn Skua?

480 MPH ASI Spitfire (pg 4 ins)
This is a classic and rare 480MPH Air speed indicator. Used
extensively in the Mk V Spitfire onwards, replacing the 400
MPH ASI used in the earlier Mks. This gauge is in good
condition. It was also used in Mosquitoes but as far as I
aware exclusive to these two aircraft types.

Dated 1942 it also has a 1944
date painted on the face, these were usually as a result of
a service so it would appear it saw action between these
dates.
The picture does not do the
face justice , the flash tends to show every imperfection to
the naked eye it looks very clean and clear.

Oil Pressure Lancaster (pg 4 ins)
This is a brand new instrument
in it's original box which was intended for the Avro
Lancaster Heavy Bomber. It is almost identical to the gauges
which were fitted in other British aircraft such as the
Spitfire, Hurricane, Mosquito and others. As you can see it
is complete with a very long capillary tubing and banjo
sender and should be in serviceable working condition.

very exiting find. Discovered during demolition work
in an old underground store. As new wartime Radiator
temperature Gauge complete in its original box having never
left the factory. Superb and untouched for sixty years this
gauge is a 12volt FIGHTER version
and was discovered only 20 miles from Castle Bromwich
England's main Spitfire factory. With these two facts in
mind its almost certain these were destined for Castle
Bromwich and a Spitfire. Perhaps sealed by bomb damage. I
see no reason that these should not be serviceable subject
to the normal checks.

The Castle Bromwich Aerodrome
Factory, built in 1940, is now occupied by the Jaguar car
plant.
The Factory closed in
December 1945. It had built 15634 Spitfires including
Seafire production, and a 305 contribution to Lancaster
production. The first of which was completed in late 1943. I
have a small quantity available.

New Oil Temp gauge 24v (pg4 ins) This

unused boxed condition. Most Flying Spitfires today have

alongside our black radiator temp gauge shown above. Its slightly
different with green marked scale.

Dunlop Pressure gauge (pg4 ins)
AHO
1555
It has
been suggested these belong in a Fairey Battle? Being a
Dunlop gauge I would suspect a more widespread use.
The Fairy Battle has been delivered in large numbers to the
R.A.F. and composes many of our first-line squadrons. It is
an all-metal medium bomber with a crew of two. A Rolls-Royce
Merlin engine of 990 h.p. supplies the power, driving a
three bladed variable pitch air-screw. Armament consists of
a fixed Browning gun in the right wing and a free gun in the
back cockpit. Full night-flying equipment is carried, and
the machine can attain a speed of over 250 m.p.h.
