The Spitfire as it
evolved
There were many marks of Spitfire for
specific tasks but the following represent the difference in appearance as
performance increased.
The Mk1 . Mk V. Mk IX (VII). Mk XIV and the F21
Mk 1
Spitfire
Note 2 or 3 Bladed Propeller. One radiator.
Eight machine guns (no cannon yet) Merlin Engine
Mk V Spitfire
Three bladed propeller. Single radiator and
20mm Cannon.
Merlin Engine.
Mk IX Spitfire
Note 4 bladed propeller twin radiators single stub for each
exhaust
Merlin Engine.
Mk XIV Spitfire
Note Five bladed prop, bubble canopy although not all XIV's
had them
Some Mk IX's were also had bubble canopy's.
