Twin Magneto switch and frame (No 87 pg 2 Elec Swit)

Here we have a long stalk twin magneto switch with its protective cage. This version was used on all twin and four engine Wartime RAF Bombers and Fighters. Obviously in four engine types two sets would be used. This set has a stores ticket attached which says it was removed from a Shackleton WR 977 which if you search google still exists. This has a Kings crown so this was almost certainly used in an earlier aircraft before being fitted to the Shak.

Magneto Synchroniser Test Box (No 83 pg 2 Elec Swit)

This is a magneto synchroniser used for  testing aircraft magnetos, it is the best example I have seen of one of these and is complete it even has its original bulbs. Its a really attractive peace and made to last.

This Caging Switch is a component of the Gyro Flux Gate Compass System, which was installed in many long range bomber and transport aircraft of the US Army Air Force and US Navy, such as B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator, B-29 Superfortress, PBY Catalina, PB4Y Privateer, and C-54 Skymaster.  Post-war aircraft which used this system included the B-50 Superfortress and the B-36 Peacemaker.

Here we have an interesting piece. The switch is generally used as a bomb release switch.

This particular one is mounted on a Perspex panel with brackets to mount to a tube. So far I have been unable to identify its application but would make an educated guess that its designed for use in a single engine fighter bomber. Both Hurricanes and Spitfires carried bombs.

The Spitfire had a cable release for dropping its payload. It is possible that with its tubular construction that this was fitted to a Hurricane.

This is a blank as new old stock. These switch covers are used to protect the push button switches used in practically every kind of Wartime RAF aircraft, from Spitfire starter buttons to fire ex on Lancs. These being blank can be engraved or transfers applied to suit your purpose. We have multiples available.

IFF destruction push button covers (No 50 pg 2 Elec Swit)

 IFF switch cover (Identification Friend or foe) in the event of the aircraft crashing the IFF had a system to destroy itself, all three buttons had to pressed at the same time setting off a timed explosion to destroy the IFF. The switches were protected to prevent this happening by accident and these covers sat over the switches.

This is a momentary switch although not correct as its 250 Volt would make an ideal switch to use in a Lancaster panel for the slow running switches as its the same size with the same hole diameter. It is a momentary switch pulls down and returns to its original position.

Starter Switch For a Grumman Avenger Type 645  (No 18 pg 2 Elec Swit)

Here is a type 645 starter switch for a Grumman Avenger, like allot of aircraft parts probably used in other US built aircraft. In good condition the levers move as they should with a good stiff spring.

The Avenger entered U.S. service in 1942, and first saw action during the Battle of Midway.

 Despite the loss of five of the six Avengers on its combat debut, it survived in service to become one of the outstanding torpedo bombers of World War II. Greatly modified after the war, it remained in use until the 1960s.

Extremely rare 1930s twin magneto switch.

B24 Liberator IFF Radio destruction Control (No 11C pg 2 Elec Swit)

This is the USAF version of the IFF (identification friend or foe) and radio equipment destruction control.

This unit was used to destroy the IFF and radio equipment if the aircraft was forced to crash land in enemy territory.

 The RAF and USAF used  compatible radio systems and the Spitfire had a similar unit on the RHS of the Cockpit.

You can see this unit in situ in a B24 Liberator Cockpit below above and left of the Co Pilots control yoke.

This is an excellent condition rare undercarriage indicator switch. This switch was used on many types of RAF Wartime aircraft including both Lancaster and Spitfire. Its function was prevent the undercarriage being retracted while the aircraft was on the ground.

These are superb reproductions of the covers that protected the prop featuring buttons used a variety of wartime aircraft. machined from solid aluminium a variety of types were used including tin and Bakelite these particular ones were used early in the war and introduced again later as supplies of alloy became more readily available.

These are superb reproductions of the covers that protected the prop featuring buttons used a variety of wartime aircraft. A variety of types were used including tin and Bakelite . These ones are produced from a hard durable plastic to replicate the bakelite ones

Used in British aircraft although it appears to made in the US the US stopped using Port/ Starboard Inner/ Outer a long time before sync systems appeared. The British persisted in the terminology.

Reproduction Fighter/Spitfire Magneto switch (No 10C pg 2 Elec Swit)

Short switch Fighter magneto. Used in all Mk's of Spitfire and other fighters including the Hurricane.

This is a reproduction in hard sturdy plastic this has a pair of period toggle switches fitted it makes a superb reproduction of the standard Fighter or Bomber mag switches common to practically every RAF Wartime aircraft.

Air Ministry Dinghy Immersion Switch(pg2 Pilot eq)

Here we have an Immersion Switch Used to Deploy the Large Dinghies in Heavy Bombers

It Carries the Air Ministry Reference: 6D/148

The Lancaster dinghy had two means of activation apart from the internal pull cord -  the First method was the external method, "from the outside by pulling the loop on the starboard side, rear of the tailplane leading edge", and the automatic method, "by an immersion switch". I think most of the larger RAF aircraft of this period had similar multiple methods of inflating and releasing the dinghy from its stowage location, along with safeguards to prevent it drifting away before the crewmen could clamber into it!

Spitfire IFF destruction

This is a quality reproduction of the IFF (identification friend or foe) destruction bracket that sits on the lower right of the Spitfire cockpit and is used for destroying the aircraft IFF (Identification Friend or foe) in the event of the aircraft crashing. 

The IFF identified the aircraft as friendly on the British radar so it was important that it did not fall into enemy hands.

On pressing the button's a small explosive charge destroyed the IFF. There were two of these switches and they were placed inside a protective box with big letters DANGER on the top.

Grumman Avenger altitude switch (Ins pg3 Altimeter 10 ) 

Here we have a mint condition altitude limit switch. This aircraft used as a torpedo by both the RAF and USAF famously during the intense carrier battles of the Pacific war. This instrument  assisted in attaining the correct height for torpedo drops.

The Avenger entered U.S. service in 1942, and first saw action during the Battle of Midway. Despite losing five of the six Avengers on its combat debut, it survived in service to become one of the outstanding torpedo bombers of WWII .

The Mk VII was a pressurised fighter. It had a more advanced pressurisation system than the Mk VI, using a sliding cockpit canopy, which was more popular than the locked cockpit on the Mk VI. The best high altitude version of the Mk VII was powered by the Merlin 71, and could reach 416mph at 44,000 ft. The Mk VII remained in production from August 1942 until early in 1944, although only 140 aircraft were produced in that time. The Mk VII was a little more successful than the earlier MK VI but the “interim” Mk IX turned out to be capable of operating high altitude itself, and the Mk VII soon lost its special status as a high altitude fighter, although it remained in use throughout the war.

This is an original undercarriage indicator switch taken from a MK VII Spitfire  it was fitted with a supplementary plate stamped with the Supermarine Spitfire part nos.

This is a mint boxed  switch used  in the  Hurricane  Used in conjunction with the Merlin II, Mk I Hurricane and the Mercury XX engines with Rotax generators this was later superseded by automatic generators later in the War..
