RAF signal lamp (No 69 pg1 Light)
Here we have a nice example
of an RAF signal lamp used by Bombers in formation to
maintain radio silence on bombing missions, they could
signal to each other using Morse code. I have tested in on
12 volts and it works perfectly as it should.
Of coarse this was
designed to use 24 volts as Bombers used this voltage rather
than the 12 volts used in fighters.
The sighting ring at the top
allows the crew member to target the aircraft he is trying
to signal.
Fighters used a similar
system but not having the room or free hands this was done
using a fixed light on the top of the fuselage, you can see
this type of light listed further down on this page.

Lighting Control Panel (No 60 pg1 Light)
Fitted to the Fairy Firefly
and probably other FAA aircraft.
Click on

External lights control panel. It
is for control and mode selection of Navigation, Formation and
Recognition Lights. If you read the legends on the various
controls I am sure you will see the logic of this.
The
references to Morse are actually for light-signaled Morse not
for radio.
When flying a mission in formation with other aircraft,
signaling by light amongst the formation would assist in
maintaining radio silence.
Dim/Med/Bright, Off/Morse/Steady, Green/Red/Amber all
refer to lamp statLamp Instrument 5CX/7904 (pg1 light)
Navigation/Formation/Identification are each a functional
lamp or group of lamps on the exterior of the aircraft.

Reproduction Spitfire
Tail Light Lens (No 50 pg1 Light)
We have now reproduced this super rare
part. It is exactly the same as the original dimensionally.
The hard part was the internal thread I
managed to get a tool made to replicate the exact thread as
the original and so this will screw on to the original
Spitfire tail light fitting.
Above left is the
cutting tool I had made fitted to the original to prove the
thread is correct. The picture to the right shows the light
diffusing effect of our reproduction.
The lens is frosted as apposed to the
clear original but light will still shine through and it has
the effect of diffusing the light so most likely will be
more visible than original. Its made of a very tough plastic
and will not crack or break easily.
